KU hoops the past 25

Having lunch with Kelting a week ago at O'neils in OP, and he raised this question to me, because he's a dick and had no intention of discussing this after lunch he just wanted me to waste time thinking about it, so here it is in all of its glory
discuss

KU All time team of the last 20-25 years

Gosh buddy, obviously this is very debatable list, but if you are talking the last 20 years than I would agree with most of your choices. The thing you have to ask yourself is whether you are looking at a team of 10 or what select number of players you are looking for and years?

I would consider putting A Miles in there as well as Langford.
Keith is 6th all-time in scoring at this rich tradition school, while Miles is the all-time dish man at KU. I would almost replace Adonis with A. Miles if someone had to go. Both of them went to two FF4's and Jordan was ballin. I remember I had a 3 point shooting contest with him one day after practice in 1993, first one to 5 wins. Rex was cheering me on, as we both hit our first 3 treys, but Adonis hit his next two, while I clanked mine. Too bad I did not have my camera handy back then. Enought about that. though....Miles had 110 wins and Adonis 113 in their 4 years. AJ is 23rd on the all-time scoring list while Miles is 33rd, but I think what sets Aaron apart is his 954 assists to Adonis's 568 (6th all-time). I think you give the edge to Miles and put him on the list.

I see you threw Rex in there. Loved that guy! Another guy that I loved was Haase. I would also put Boschee in this category, not being biased either. This is a tough one but I would go Rex/Jeff and then Jerod. Jeff, Big 12 All-time 3 point leader and 13th overall in scoring at KU. Give Rex credit, he only played two years. I think it is a toss up between Jeff and Rex.

I would agree with D Manning, The Truth, Raef, Drew, Kirk, Nick, Simien, Vaughn, Pritchard and Randall.

I don't see how Ostertag makes this list. The guy couldn't crack the top 50 in scoring and top 12 in rebounds. Yea, he is the all-time block leader, but the guy was 7'2 and Collison only trails him by 15 while Chenowith is only 16 behind in swats. I might get chastized for saying this, but I think Chenowith was better than the Big O. At least the guy cracked the top 5 in all-time boards and is 27th in all-time scoring.

Now, I agree with Rush ,but I think if you put him in there you have to mention Mario. Not just did he make the biggest shot in KU history, but he was an all-around player. The guy would have shattered the all-time steals record and is 24th in scoring, and is 11th in all-time assists (would have been top 6 or 7). I know, coulda, should, woulda, but the guy was nails. He always wanted the ball in his hands at the end, and might I say he did hit some big shots for KU.

Players that I think would be considered for this list if they had played 3 years: Arthur and Julian

If you are looking at the last 25 years, you would have to mention the likes of Cedric Hunter, Calvin Thompson, Greg Dreiling and Ronnie Kellog.

This is tough, especialy if you are tyring to get this down to the top 10 or make two teams. I would love to discussion about this and actually come up with the top team. That would be heaven!

From me to PZ

I like your Miles arguement, I think as Kelting and I were discussingthis we went Adonis Jordan just based on the fact that he had more todo with getting to 2 final fours and he was a better shooter.Miles clearly a better defender and on a team like this (being thatthere was 14, we were trying to set up a squad) a passer would be goodso let's switch Miles for Adonis.

Keith is a good one, because as you pointed out he had great all timenumbers but he was also the product of 2 Final Fours and an Elite 8which meant he played in a lot of games and also stayed 4 years. Ilike Rush over him based on the fact that he was a better outsideshooter and he could lock down the 1-3 man on any team. And in a wayRush was more of a leader for his team than Keith plus Keith has a bumknee and we can't afford a trainer.

The Big O, hmmmm. Ok I'll tell you my reference on Dreiling isn't realgood so I can't speak to that, but O was and is a TRUE center, andthat's what we need, honestly I'd rather have a Pollard on here and ifthis was say 18 months later I think one of the centers is Cole.

Rex has to stay, right although I see your arguement. Chalmers wouldactually be a better point than Miles or Adonis, better shooter anddefender than both and more clutch, so I think you are on tosomething. When we were coming up with this I think I got caught up a little bitin what accolades everybody got so that muddied it up.

So I think we think of this squad mostly eye to eye.

The thing that makes it hard to come up with a true 14 man team isthat KU has been devoid of a true center that was dominate, thoughDanny played some at the 5.

And then you know other than Pierce the 3 spot has been pretty so so,minus Rush and Keith I would argue was more of a 2 even though heplayed the 3 and if we had a real 3 we beat the Cuse in O3 and haveanother banner.

Then there's 2 types of points. You have the pass first point whoisn't relied on to score with Miles and Vaughn. Then there's the more scoring minded point in Chalmers and I guess youcould group Hinrich in that with Adonis being maybe the best blend ofthe 2.

Before I forget let's talk about Boschee a point that moved to the 2so he's versatile, kind of, he wasn't really good at running the showso he's more of a 2. And while he could make the 3's drop he didn'tprovide anything on the dribble drive and his defense while he gotrecognized for it I never felt it to be that worthy so i'm not surehow you put him on here unless you want someone that is deadly fromthe outside. And if that's all you are looking for then why not BillyThomas and couldn't Rex be your 3 point specialist? Even though hecould do more.Yes I typed this whole thing on my blackberry.

Rock Chalk

pz to me

As much as I hate ostertag I have to agree with you. He is the only true center. I would think cole would be a lock after this year. The guy is a beast!

You could almost do without Rex but I do see your point. He could take it to the hole, shoot the rock and play defense. Keep him.

I just cannot see this team without Mario. Gotta keep him even if he is the 14th man.

I will agree and take Rush ahead of Keith due to the fact Brandon was multi dimensional. He was long and could guard a lot of palyers.

Starting 5
Vaughn
Kirk
Pierce
Collison
Manning
Although it is tough not throwing Raef in there.

RB to PZ

The more I think about it and I'm trying not to think about the shot,I'm going to go with Chalmers over Miles and keep Pritchard. Thinkingbeing that Pritchard won a title and Miles didn't plus Pritchard wasso good at playing along side a ledgend so he's be great on this team provide some grit.

I like the starting 5 put I'm not sure we can go to the opening tip without Raef, I mean that stretch in 97, his JR year, when he went for 20-10 in what was it 12 games in a row when Pollard was hurt, was unreal.

But seeing who the other 4 are Collison would fit better with thatlineup, because they would play very fast.
Good input, thanks and let's get together for a beer and a game soonso we can talk about the twins.

193950 to me

Ryan:
you need to leave Adonis on there-you forgot newton. your forgot the spotfor the best 6th man-that would be Woodberry. Not so sure about Ostertag. Ithink you should come up with the offensive-defensive teams for footballfor the last 10 years. By the way Reesing doesn't necessarily start atquarterback because Whittemore was the one that started the turnaround. Thetwo corners should be easy, the strong safety should be easy, the tight endshould be easy. Two of the three receivers should be easy. Give it a try.

Wow. A lot of text in there. Here are my major observations. Miles and Langford are not in the discussion. Sorry, they just aren't. I could give you a million reasons but mostly they just rode coat tails to their FF, with them both shitting the bed when they were "the ones".I agree that Adonis should be on and sexy rexy too. Bosche is gay and therefore automatically off the list. Same thing for Chenoworthless. Pollard is debatable but for my money I would put Dreiling on ahead of them all. Chalmers is on my team as well (definitely over BRUSH). Good topic. I will send my football list to you at some point in the next week. much better discussion topic. Any reason Mario Kensey can't be on both?

Great point about riding coat tails, and then emphatically shitting the bed against Bucknell, that's why Miles and Langford are in the D league.

Boschee really is gay, once he grew hair to pick up chicks he started smokin dicks.

Weird that you'd want Dreiling on there.

Looking forward to your football thoughts, I already have a team mostly made up, its just the Mangino era though.
And yes Mario Kinsey would be on both lists, and probably at multiple positions for football.

Actually, I fucking hate that guy, when he faild to guard that dude from Iowa State and let that dude hit a 3 at the end of the first half in Allen, we lost the Big 12 on that play that year, he can steal credit cards and order Domino's with the best of em.
And if he stole your card you'd totally be cool with buying him and Reggie Duncan a couple of pies.
