This is new and exciting

Over the past week or so KU football recruiting has hit some uncharrtered territory.

First of all they got the RB that was at the very top of their board in James Sims and before that they got one of their top TE prospects in Robert Smiley.

Having 8 verbal commits in mid July is something new and the best part about it is that they are getting some of their most coveted targets and they aren't just taking anybody.

Recently we have heard of 3 HS players publicly declare that they have committed to KU only to be turned down.
First there is Carey Fortson who is a decent receiver out of Texass.
Then you have a solid safety in Isaac Umesi who also has not been allowed to commit.
And then the most random was some kid named Jones out of Memphis committing and I've never even heard of him.

Now I think Umesi still could be a Jayhawk and Fortson has an outside chance, but with only 16-17 schollys to give out the coaches are being very selective.

So there's 8 on board now and Donovan Vestal, DE, seems like its only a matter of time before he pulls the trigger.

Its a very good time to be Jayhawk fan and it appears its only getting better.

This is great news. I want to remind you of my comment after your initial worry about the status of this recruiting class.

Personally, I am not too worried. When you look at the grand scope of things, the coaching staff is probably trying to lay the foundation for a bunch of kids to compete against each other for who will actually get a scholly. With what I have heard about the success of our improving touchpoints in TX, FL, OH, and other states where we previously had no presence, coupled with the potential staggering stats put on the board by this year's team will equal high quality recruits wanting to play for the Big 12 (North) Champs. Relax.

Hey you were right on well said, I was a little skeptical there for a bit but the staff has locked up some real players.

Get me a good OL and another DE (vestal) and I'm really liking it.

Mangino & Co. (and sparkling new facilities - Thanks, Lew!) are taking KU recruiting to a previously unheard-of level.

I love it. Kids racing to commit to KU!
